ARA Joins Coalition Urging House To Pass CFATS Extension

Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards

On October 19, Agricultural Retailers Association (ARA) joined 32 organizations and companies in sending a letter to the House Republican and Democrat leadership urging support for bipartisan legislation that provides a multi-year extension of the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The organizations and companies on the letter represent thousands of American businesses and employ millions of workers in the areas of agriculture, chemistry, energy, forest products, food processing, medicine, and other businesses.

The letter states that the current practice of year-to-year extensions undermines implementation because it is unclear if investments made during these short-term extensions will continue to satisfy regulatory standards in the future.  ARA and the coalition urged Congress to ensure that DHS continues to implement CFATS in a way that promotes regulatory efficiency and minimizes costly, burdensome requirements.
