Ag Groups Issue Request For Renewal Of Anhydrous Ammonia HOS Exemption

The limited Hours of Service (HOS) exemption for anhydrous ammonia granted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will need to be renewed if the House and Senate surface transportation bill conferees do not come to an agreement, and if the agricultural HOS clarification language is not contained in a final agreement if one is reached. The current limited exemption expires in October.

The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) has filed a request for renewal on behalf of the the Agricultural Retailers Association (ARA), the Agricultural and Food Transporters Conference, and the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives. If the request is accepted by FMCSA, an announcement and request for comments will be issued in the Federal Register. These applications take consideration time, thus necessitating the need to begin the process early.
