On The Redball

Redball 7840 Sprayer

Seeing a market opportunity, Redball, LLC, has decided to get into the self-propelled sprayer game with its new Model 7840 unit. According to company President Steve Claussen, the Model 7840 builds upon Redball’s base of in-house knowledge and experience.

“This sprayer takes a fresh approach at integrating features that maximize in-field productivity and reduce downtime,” says Claussen.

Features Breakdown

The sprayer’s 2WD mechanical drive train is powered by a Tier 3, 275 horsepower, 6.8-liter John Deere diesel engine. This is coupled with an Allison 3000 automatic transmission with a locking torque converter, a JCB on-the-go locking differential, and gear-driven drop boxes. The axles, which are adjustable from 120 to 152 inches, are suspended with an automatic axle-leveling air bag system with sway control.

The unit’s command center is housed in a John Deere pressurized cab with an air suspension operator seat. Instead of a joystick, the engine throttle is controlled with a foot pedal. Switches are laid out ergonomically, according to the company.

Boom Details

The Model 7840 features a ProAction Flex Boom, designed by Knight Farm Machinery. The lattice-truss pendulum boom, which is available in 80- and 90-foot widths, has a hydraulic locking center section that controls boom tilt and allows boom sections to be folded independently. The design features urethane yaw-dampening springs and Redball’s patented rubber suspension system.

The stainless steel wet boom plumbing features control valves grouped at the center of each section for fast shutoff response times. The sprayer’s baffled 1,200-gallon stainless steel product tank includes an integral rinse tank at the rear. Clearance for the Model 7840 is 48 inches.

The unit is available with Raven and Raven VIPER controllers. The GreenSeeker optical sensing and application system is among a list of equipment options.
