The R4038 Impresses Two Places At Once

John Deere R4038

The summer equipment season always seems to generate its share of market buzz. Usually, after ag retailers attend the annual Midwest AG Industries Exposition (MAGIE) or an equipment manufacturer product showcase, they come away talking about how interesting or exciting a certain product was. Also, normally, due to different show focuses and equipment manufacturer emphasis, the “most talked about product” doesn’t tend to overlap.

But it did this year. Last week, I attended a John Deere new product introduction in Columbus, OH. While the company heavily promoted its new tractor models and combine, it also launched a pair of new self-propelled sprayers. One of these, the R4038, was particularly well-received at the event. Replacing the company’s 4830 Sprayer, the R4038 features a 310-hp 9-L PowerTech Plus PSS Final Tier 4 engine with a four-wheel hydrostatic drive. Its redesigned flat-fold booms come in widths up to 120 feet. In addition, the R4038 Sprayer comes Direct Injection Ready. This option provides the flexibility to change products between crops and manage chemical risk by allowing the operator to carry up to 135 gallons of up to two raw chemicals outside of the primary solution tank.

Attendees at the John Deere event were very impressed with the new sprayer. Comments ranged from “stylish,” to “very easy to operate and comfortable.”

At the same time, a few states over in Bloomington, IL, the R4038 also impressed the attendees at MAGIE. In fact, so many were taken by this particular unit that it ended up being voted the 2013 ShowStopper Award winner at the show by MAGIE visitors.

“That’s great to hear,” said Barry Nelson, manager, public relations, Advertising & Marketing Communications Department, when informed of the R4038’s ShowStopper win. “It’s good to know our efforts to improve upon our sprayer line is meeting with such widespread approval.”
