Showing Some Environmental Respect
July 20, 2012 It’s finally here – Environmental Respect Awards week. From July 23 until July 27, dozens of ag retail representatives from around the U.S. and world will make their way to the nation’s capital to celebrate being named winners in the annual Environmental Respect Awards competition. The program, now in its 22nd year, is presented by DuPont Crop Protection and CropLife magazine and honors those ag retailers that have shown an exceptional commitment to stewardship in their local communities/countries.
And the scope of winners spreads far and wide. Among the U.S. winners, there are ones from each coast of the nation (Delaware and California) and three from the center of the country (Illinois, South Dakota and Arkansas). Among the international winners, honorees come from nearby countries such as Mexico and Brazil to as faraway places as New Zealand and Algeria.
“This is a time for these ag retailers that have an environmental vision to gather together and share their ideas while being acknowledged for their accomplishments,” says K. Elliott Kowels, vice president, business development at Meister Media Worldwide, (the parent company for CropLife). “It also gives everyone there a chance to honor the national winner, which will be announced on Thursday, July 26, in a special ceremony on Capitol Hill.”

Too often, our industry spends a lot of its time defending its practices and reacting to negative public press stories. It’s nice to know that at least once per year, ag retail representatives get the chance to proactively spread their good news on the world-worthy stage that is Washington.
