2014: The Year Of The Sprayer

The other day, while eating at a Chinese restaurant, I happened to notice the table placemat was a representation of the Chinese Zodiac. For those of you who are interested, 2014 will be the Year of the Horse.

Of course, in the ag retail marketplace, 2014 might be better represented as the Year of the Sprayer. Earlier this year, both AGCO and Case IH introduced new sprayers to the industry – the RG700 and Patriot 2240, respectively. Since then, five more sprayer models are in the works for the 2014 season. These include the Patriot 3240 and 3340 from Case IH, the new STS from Hagie Manufacturing and the R4030 and R4038 from John Deere.

To put this into some perspective, I can’t remember a year between 2000 and now when there were seven new sprayer models being introduced this close together. In my mind, this speaks volumes to how the major equipment manufacturers are viewing the current state of the ag retail market and bodes well for the near future.

“The addition of the RG700 to our industry-leading RoGator and TerraGator line-up reinforces our commitment to the application industry by providing the best machines for growers and professional applicators across North America,” said Mark Sharitz, director of marketing for AGCO Application Equipment, at the RG700 product launch.

Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come for the rest of 2014 as well. For the past few years, all sectors of agriculture have been on a nice winning streak. It would be great if this continued for even a little bit longer.
