Making The News

There are several promotions and other recent changes in the industry.



The newsmakers include:

  • Katherine English, formerly with Capitol Hill Consulting Group, has joined The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) as vice president of government relations. Previously, English served as counsel for the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW).

    "We are pleased to have an individual of Katherine's ability and professional experience come on board to lead TFI's government relations team," says TFI President Ford B. West. "Her work drafting and shepherding legislation within the Senate during her time with the EPW Committee will be of great value to TFI as we work to advance our members' public policy goals."

  • Scott Schertz, owner of Schertz Aerial Service in Hudson, IL, has been named to EPA's Pesticide Program Dialogue Committee. This committee provides a forum for industry stakeholders to provide feedback to EPA on regulatory and policy issues pertaining to federal pesticide programs including topics such as registration review, spray drift, reduced risk pesticides, labeling, and minor uses.

    The committee's membership includes environmental and public interest groups, pesticide manufacturers and trade associations, user and commodity groups, public health and academic institutions, federal and state agencies, and the general public. Schertz also serves on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Fertilizer & Chemical Association and is a past president of the National Agricultural Aviation Association.

  • Jim Zimmer, previously vice president of Monsanto Co.'s U.S. Branded Business, has been named CEO of Channel Bio Corp. He replaces Aline Funk, who recently stepped down to join AGRA (The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa). Channel Bio Corp. is part of American Seeds, Inc., a Monsanto holding company. The Channel brands are Crow's Hybrids, Midwest Seed Genetics, and NC+ Hybrids.

  • Rodney Miller, an equipment industry veteran, has been appointed CEO of McCormick International USA, Inc., a division of ARGO Tractors and part of ARGO S.p.A., a holding company owned by the Morra family in Italy. Miller joined McCormick in June 2007 as vice president of sales and marketing for new products.; prior to that, he was CEO of Montana Tractors.

  • H.J. Baker & Bro., Inc. has selected James DeWitt, formerly with Mizkan Americas, Inc., as plant manager for its Wilmington, CA, sulphur manufacturing facility.
