DEALERSHIP SECURITY & YOU
This Week's Security Tip
A thorough security assessment for delivery includes looking at the product itself, the vehicle doing the delivering, driver credentials, and the route to be taken.
Before looking for potential danger to a product load of hazardous materials, retailers first should conduct a security assessment of the person who will be responsible for transporting the materials -- the driver. According to Stacy Evens, general manager for Ag Depot, Grand Forks, ND, drivers transporting hazardous materials are required to have special credentials. To check on these, she recommends retailers consider using her company’s DriverPassport.com Web site. "By using this site, retailers can immediately verify a driver’s records to make certain he or she is qualified to transport a sensitive product load," says Evens.
After confirming a driver’s qualifications, retailers need to assess other potential vulnerabilities to a product load. This includes looking at the type of vehicle being used, how dangerous the product could be in the wrong hands, and what route will be taken to deliver the product.
