Fire Reported At Agrium’s Redwater Ammonia Plant

A small explosion and fire occurred at Agrium’s Redwater Ammonia Plant #1 facility April 12, 2011. The facility is the smaller swing ammonia plant at the site. The fire started with one of its compressors. All employees on site were quickly accounted for and there were no injuries. The fire was brought under control within a half an hour.

The Ammonia Plant #1 had been shut down for maintenance and it was during the restart mode that this situation occurred. The cause remains under investigation and Agrium is working with the appropriate regulatory agencies.
