West Central Launches “Leaders of In-Furrow Technology” Initiative

Increased productivity is the lifeblood of agriculture and ongoing innovations are instrumental to this end. Furthermore, each planting season is unique in its own way, and thus planting practices that provide consistently strong seedling emergence and vigor are critical for optimizing seedling growth efficiency. Each seed possesses its maximum theoretical yield potential before it is placed into the soil. Ensuring quick emergence and protection of the seed and seedling from disease and insects is critical to capture the maximum amount of growing degree days in order to reach its final yield potential.

To help address these challenges, West Central announces their Leaders of In-Furrow Technology (LIFT) program. In partnership with BASF, FMC and Nufarm, West Central is helping the agriculture industry further understand the benefits of an in-furrow application that includes: a total program of crop nutrients, plant health products, fertilizer-compatible insecticides and customized seed treatments to get seeds off to the best start and help growers maximize yields.

Capitalizing upon West Central’s intimate knowledge and experience with the in-furrow approach to supplying crop inputs as well as partnering with other leading agricultural companies, the LIFT program offers retailers and growers an agronomically sound information base to maximize yields.

Each component of the LIFT program offers its own individual benefits that only become stronger when combined in the furrow. It allows growers to choose among the best products, at the best time, in the best location.

According to West Central market research, approximately 25% of acres planted in the U.S. include application of liquid fertilizer in-furrow. It is likely this number will grow to approximately 50% by the year 2020.

“Applying crop nutrient and crop protection products in the seed furrow at planting time is a rapidly growing farm practice across much of the country. The benefits of increased yield and improved efficiency are reasons why growers are applying more inputs at planting time. LIFT is a tool that West Central, along with our partners, will use to bring education and awareness to the agronomic and economic benefits of in-furrow applications,” said Josh Nuytten, Marketing Manager for West Central. “Because of the current technology we offer along with the new technology we will be bringing, West Central is positioned to be a leader in this market.”

West Central and its partners will be sponsoring an array of options related to in-furrow technology, including: online modules for cutting-edge practices on in-furrow technology as well as CCA accreditation, incentives for equipment to make the transition to in furrow more seamless, and opportunities for in-person meetings plus ongoing information updates.

As part of its ongoing commitment to the agriculture industry, West Central and its partners will be offering to make a contribution to the National 4H Council for each person who completes the LIFT module.
