World Demand For Ag Chemicals Up

Despite the advances in seed biotechnology (which tends to reduce crop protection product use), worldwide use of ag chemicals continues to climb.

Fertilizer and crop protection product use is growing in areas where only limited use occurred just a decade ago such China and Vietnam. Insecticides also are widely used to control insects that carry disease.

There is no practical way to feed a growing population except by using ag chemicals, according to Dennis T. Avery of the Hudson Institute, author of “Saving the Planet with Pesticides and Plastics.”
