Pioneer Acquires Two Seed Companies
December 28, 2010 Pioneer Hi-Bred has bought two seed companies, Seed Consultant Inc. of Washington Court House, OH, and Terral Seed of Lake Providence, LA.
The two companies had been part of Pioneer’s ProAccess network, selling under Pioneer trademarks. Terms were not disclosed.
The sale continues Pioneer’s strategy, announced in 2008, of expanding its sales reach by using independent seed companies to license Pioneer products for sale.
Pioneer President Paul Schickler has credited ProAccess with helping Pioneer gain market share against rival Monsanto in the 2009-10 sales year. The strategy earlier led to the acquisition of Hoegemeyer Hybrids of Hooper, NE, NuTech Seed, Ames, IA, and AgVenture Inc. of Kentland, IN.
