Monsanto: Widespread Planting Anticipated For Biotech Alfalfa

Strong demand for Genuity Roundup Ready alfalfa is being reported this season now that farmers can grow the technology for the first time since 2007.

“We are seeing a lot of excitement and pent-up demand for Genuity Roundup Ready Alfalfa this year, following a recent U.S. Department of Agriculture ruling that authorized the resumption of sale and planting of the technology,” said Steve Havera, Monsanto Traits Marketing Manager in St. Louis.

“Growers recognize that this technology can allow them to increase yield potential of alfalfa that is higher in quality due to the unsurpassed weed control achievable for the life of their alfalfa stands,” he added.

According to Havera, there is plenty of seed available in a wide variety of brands this year to growers with a wide range of choices to plant Genuity Roundup Ready Alfalfa. “We are seeing especially strong seed sales in California, Wisconsin, the Northeast U.S., and Kansas/Colorado, which are among some of the top alfalfa-producing states with a significant amount of dairy production,” he said.
