Monsanto Focuses On Drought Tolerance
May 6, 2008 Monsanto plans to invest $6 million in its Gothenburg facility to build a new center to test and promote drought-tolerant technology, according to an Associated Press (AP) report.
Monsanto Co. plans to begin the work sometime this summer after it buys the land and expects to complete it next year, says AP.
The manufacturer will use the facility to learn how much effect drought-tolerant seeds and new management techniques would have on water use. The AP report notes the center will also be used to show how new technology can help manage water.
Robb Fraley, Monsanto chief technology officer, says the St. Louis-based company wants to create products that can help growers consistently produce crops even when water is scarce.
