Marrone Bio Innovations Receives EPA Registration For Venerate Bioinsecticide

Marrone Bio Innovations, Inc. (MBI), a leading global provider of bio-based pest management and plant health products, has announced today its Venerate Bioinsecticide has received federal registration from the EPA. The insecticide controls a broad spectrum of pests and will be sold into a wide variety of crop segments.

Venerate is the first product from the company’s in-house discovery screen to be registered. It joins Grandevo Bioinsecticide in the company’s product portfolio that helps growers control crop-damaging pests, while also allowing them to reduce the risk of insects developing resistance to synthetic insecticides.

Dr. Pam Marrone, CEO of MBI, explains how the newly registered product will benefit growers, “With Venerate joining Grandevo in our bioinsecticide lineup, conventional and organic growers will have two biological products — with different modes of action — to strengthen their crop protection programs and reduce the risk of insect resistance.”

Dr. Marrone added, “Used either in rotation or in a tank-mix, Venerate can improve the effectiveness of conventional and organic integrated pest management (IPM) programs, and because of its biological profile, it also provides greater flexibility over chemical insecticides that face increasing use restrictions. Venerate also reduces risk to workers, consumers and non-target pests, and carries the same residue level (MRL) exemption, and minimum worker re-entry and pre-harvest intervals as Grandevo, so both products can be used right up to the day of harvest.”

Venerate Bioinsecticide is currently being registered in individual states in preparation for the 2014 growing season.
