Chemtura Guarantees Soybean Yield Boost With Dimilin

Increasing yield potential is often talked about when making soybean input decisions. Chemtura AgroSolutions is reportedly going one step farther with Dimilin 2L insect growth regulator and guaranteeing increased yield when the product is used at the proper timing on soybeans (R3 stage or early soybean pod fill).

Since its introduction, university researchers and extension personnel have tested the efficacy of Dimilin in many field trials. Researchers saw yield improvements in nearly 80 percent of these trials. In some studies, the increase was 10% or more over untreated beans.

“We at Chemtura AgroSolutions are confident that soybean growers can experience similar results if Dimilin is applied at the reproductive R3 soybean growth stage (early pod fill) that we will guarantee the yield boost,” says Keith Griffith, technical sales support representative, Chemtura AgroSolutions.

“In an average-yielding soybean field, that could add up to five bushels per acre and $60 per acre income with today’s commodity prices. Spending only a few dollars per acre to be guaranteed as much as $60 back sounds like an investment farmers ought to like,” adds Griffith.

Dimilin is labeled as a yield enhancement tool because soybean plants treated with a minimum rate of 2 oz/acre at the R3 growth stage have shown increases in the number of pods retained per plant — leading to a yield boost and increased profits. This effect is enhanced when applied in conjunction with a fungicide because both increase yields by improving the health of the soybean plant and should be applied at the same critical growth stage.

As a broad-spectrum, long-lasting insect growth regulator, Dimilin also interferes with the larval stages of worm pests and causes them to die during molting to the next size (instar).  This R3 soybean stage application can prevent foliage defoliation and pod loss thus reducing damage to the soybean crop.

“We’d like you to take the Dimilin Soybean Yield Challenge on your farm this year,” says Griffith. “If your yield increase does not cover the cost of the application, Chemtura AgroSolutions will replace the Dimilin used. Additionally, the first 200 growers to participate will earn $100 and enough product to treat up to 60 acres next year for their efforts.”

Here’s how to take the Dimilin 2L Soybean Yield Challenge:

  • Contact Brandon Doggett at [email protected] or 678-502-4651 for an enrollment form.
  • Identify a uniform field to perform the side-by-side trial.
  • Document the variety planted and the fungicides and micronutrients applied to the entire field.
  • Treat at least 20 acres within the field with Dimilin according to the label and leave at least 20 acres untreated.
  • Document yield based on on-board yield monitor or weigh wagon results.
  • Report trial results to Chemtura AgroSolutions.

Crop consultants can also facilitate the trials for grower customers.

In addition to its proven efficacy and low cost, Dimilin has low impact on beneficial insects and is easy to apply with standard spray equipment. It can be tank mixed with fungicides, as well as with most adjuvants, liquid fertilizers, and pesticides. This convenient flexibility decreases trips through the field—saving farmers time and fuel costs.
