Resistance Fighters Play Role In Growers’ Weed Management Legacy
September 6, 2012 Syngenta is now accepting nominations for the 2012 Resistance Fighter of the Year (RFOY) program. In its fourth year, and in the midst of increasing reports of herbicide-resistant weeds, the RFOY program recognizes advisors who: help growers proactively fight herbicide-resistance, encourage sustainable weed management practices and support growers’ efforts to leave a strong weed management legacy.
Expanded Pool Of Eligible Nominees
The RFOY program has historically recognized retailers, county extension agents and crop consultants’ advisory role in the fight against herbicide resistance. “These advisors play a significant role in helping growers leave a sustainable weed management legacy,” said Les Glasgow, Ph.D., Syngenta herbicide technical asset lead. “Since weed management and sustainability are top priorities for accredited farm managers, we decided to expand the eligible nominee pool to include them for this respected award,” he said.
With an ever-growing need to educate growers about herbicide resistance, the RFOY program honors those advisors who have made exemplary efforts to educate and encourage growers to proactively fight herbicide resistance.
Winners receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the Syngenta Vero Beach Research Center, serve as spokespeople for resistance management at key industry trade shows and interact with resistance management thought leaders.
Those who nominate them are eligible to win an electronic tablet. Nominations are being accepted through November 16 here.
