The deadline to nominate an advisor for the Resistance Fighter of the Year (RFOY) award is September 13, 2013.

Through the RFOY program, Syngenta honors advisors who help growers proactively fight resistance as herbicide-resistant weeds spread across the country. Eligible Resistance Fighter candidates are nominated by their peers, and include accredited farm managers, crop consultants, retailers and county extension agents.

One Northern and one Southern candidate will be honored as the 2013 Resistance Fighters of the Year. Winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the Syngenta Vero Beach Research Center in January 2015, serve as spokespeople for resistance management at key industry tradeshows and interact with resistance management thought leaders.

“We must get away from the ‘no single drop of water thinks it is responsible for the flood’ mentality,” said Les Glasgow, Ph.D., Syngenta herbicide technical lead. “Herbicide resistance continues to spread, and to stop it, we should stop depending on one herbicide to manage weeds. These Resistance Fighters are stepping up to lead the charge by educating growers on the array of best management and cultural practices at their disposal.”

If you know someone who proactively fights herbicide resistance, encourages sustainable weed management practices and supports growers’ efforts to leave a strong weed management legacy, please consider nominating them for this award. Resistance Fighter of the Year nominations are being accepted at www.ResistanceFighteroftheYear.com through September 13, 2013. Nominators may be eligible to win an electronic tablet.
