FMC Acquires Herbicide

FMC Corp. has acquired the herbicide fluthiacet-methyl from Kumiai Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., and Ihara Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., both of Tokyo. FMC has been distributing fluthiacet-methyl in the U.S. under the brand name Cadet herbicide and will now develop the herbicide globally. Fluthiacet-methyl is a broad-spectrum herbicide currently registered for early post-emergence use on corn, soybeans, and cotton in the U.S. It is effective on many tough-to-control broadleaf weeds that have developed resistance to glyphosate.

"FMC is very excited about the acquisition of fluthiacet-methyl and our ability to develop it further in other crops and in other product concepts around the world," says Milton Steele, vice president and general manager, FMC Agricultural Products Group.
