Study: Growers To Pre-Purchase Fertilizer For 2011 Crops

Growers plan to pre-purchase fertilizer in 2010 and corn remains king, according to onsite polls taken at 2010 Farm Progress Show and Husker Harvest Days.

While attending the two annual farm shows, randomly selected growers shared thoughts regarding harvest 2010, fertilizer application and the 2011 growing season. Response highlights include:

  • More than 40 percent of growers are most concerned about fluctuating and or increasing fertilizer prices when asked about the 2011 growing season
  • 43 percent plan to pre-purchase fertilizer in 2010 in expectation for price increases
  • 64 percent predict corn to be 2011’s most lucrative crop
  • Less than half as many respondents (29 percent) predict soybeans to be the most lucrative crop in 2011
