Agrotain Develops New Formulations

Agrotain International has developed three new formulations for the 2010 growing season as part of the company’s ongoing sustainability initiative. The effort produced higher concentrated formulas that reduce packaging, freight, handling, and storage needs.

Agrotain products help growers get the most from the nitrogen (N) they pay for. Agrotain controls volatility losses (loss of N into the air) by inhibiting the urease enzyme in the soil. Agrotain Plus does the same for UAN, but also controls denitrification (tying up N in the soil) and leaching (N washing out). In the new formulations, crop benefits remain as strong as ever, but with additional application advantages.

What’s new: More Agrotain with less volume. A higher concentrated liquid formula of Agrotain with a rate reduced from 4 quarts per ton (qts/ton) urea to 3 qts/ton or 2 qts/ton UAN to 1.5 qts/ton UAN. This new, more condensed formula will make blending easier and faster while reducing the quantity of bulk handled and stored.

What’s new: Agrotain technology in a dry formula. This is a new dry option for blending in urea, so it is easier to handle and apply. It’s also the highest concentration formula of Agrotain as it reduces the amount of product used by 67 percent. It takes just 3 pounds (lbs) of Agrotain Dry to treat a ton of urea compared to 4 qts of the original Agrotain liquid formula. It was available on a very limited experimental basis in 2009, with commercial quantities available for 2010.

What’s new: Agrotain Plus in a granular form that is easier to mix. The granular form of Agrotain Plus Ez Flo makes it easy to pour and mix. Designed for use in bulk handling systems, it also quickly suspends in liquid nitrogen. While the rate remains the same 15 lbs/ton UAN, the increase in product density allows a one-third reduction in the space required for storage.
