Dow AgroSciences Bean Replant Supply Adequate

Dow AgroSciences and its seed company, Mycogen Seeds, might not be the first company you’d think of when your grower-customers are looking for replacement soybean seed. Think again, says one company spokesperson.

Dow AgroSciences has bought several seed companies during the past 18 months, and now has soybean seeds in its arsenal, according to Garry Hamlin, Dow AgroSciences spokesman.

CropLife eNews asked Hamlin if, given the need to replant in the Midwest due to recent flooding, and given the likelihood that it will be soybeans that are replanted, will there be adequate soybean seed available to meet demand?

“In general, we believe that our industry will have adequate soybean seed available to meet this year’s demand, but in some cases the varieties available may not in every case be the grower’s first choice from the standpoint of maturity,” he says. “With our own Atlas Brand Soybeans, we see potential where increased demand could make certain soybean varities less available, but we are prepared to work with growers to provide effective substitutions, and we are confident that there will ultimately be enough seed to meet requirements.”
