Canada OKs New Herbicide Adjuvant
May 26, 2009 A new adjuvant for herbicides has received Canadian registration, reports the Manitoba Co-Operator.
Guelph, Canada-based crop protection firm Norac Concepts has received Canadian registration for Enhance, a new non-ionic spray adjuvant, the publication reports. Norac claims that Enhance, an 80 percent mixture of triglyceride ethoxylate 10 POE, will surpass voluntary federal standards for pest control chemistries.
Norac plans to market Enhance, which is meant to improve efficacy of approved pesticides ranging from Roundup and Pursuit to Ambush and Elevate, to Ontario crop producers as a “multifaceted” adjuvant to improve chemicals’ spreading, wetting, and penetration properties on target plants with “no adverse effects.” Enhance, the company continues, “contains no nonylphenols or nonyl phenol ethoxylates,” or NPEs, and can be used at “significantly lower” rates than adjuvants based on methylated seed oils (MSOs), crop oil concentrates (COCs) and petroleum-based surfactants. Enhance is based on compliance with the federal Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) on the removal of nonlylphenols and NPEs.
Norac’s Bob Chyc says that Enhance performs at rates similar to 90 percent nonionic surfactants and at rates a quarter to half those of MSOs and COCs. Enhance will be marketed by Norac and local retail firm Engage Agro.
