WinField Spray Analysis System Takes Aim At Drift Reduction

With new EPA spray drift regulations in the wings, WinField is ready to help farmers minimize spray drift and protect crop input investments with the new WinField Spray Analysis System. This innovative system will not only help advance the industry’s knowledge of spray application, but also help reduce costly waste due to off-target drift. Unique Design Delivers Accurate Analysis
Developed by WinField research and product development staff, the WinField Spray Analysis System examines the effects of spray nozzles, pressure, adjuvants, active ingredients, tank mixtures, and other factors that affect spray particle characteristics. The system’s patent-pending design includes a fully enclosed wind tunnel and innovative fluid delivery system that allows precise testing of active ingredients and a wide range of nozzles. This precision is crucial in the development of new drift-reduction and deposition products that will help farmers optimize spray efficiency and decrease drift potential.
“Test results are recorded in a database system for comparison, and results are validated in the field, at university test sites and at the nearly 200 Answer Plot Program locations across the country,” Spandl explains. “Since we began operating the system earlier this year, more than 14,500 samples have been tested to build an extensive testing database.”
Due to its unique approach to reducing drift and tangible drift-reduction results, the WinField Spray Analysis System was recently recognized with the 2012 CropLife America Information and Technology Innovation Award.
Drift Reduction Technology (DRT) Program Benefits
The introduction of the WinField Spray Analysis System coincides with new DRT program being implemented by the EPA. The WinField Spray Analysis System will enable farmers to comply with product labels and reduce drift by developing DRT-verified products and expert recommendations for spray applications.
