At the 2009 InfoAg Conference, SST Founder and President David Waits was presented with the PrecisionAg Award of Excellence Legacy Award for his outstanding lifetime contributions to agriculture, and in particular, agricultural technology.
With customers in 42 U.S. states and 22 countries, SST Software has come a long way since Waits traded in his university life for entrepreneurship in 1994.
Waits has brought a unique approach to precision farming, with experience and knowledge in the fields of agriculture, geography, and land management. He farmed in southwestern Kansas for 10 years and taught university-level GIS and remote sensing as a professor at Oklahoma State University for five years.
During his career, Waits has pushed for the adoption of precision agriculture techniques that enable better site-specific crop and land management. His main goal is to present a better way of managing the data that comes out of precision agriculture hardware and software.
"The Internet gave us a whole new world of possibilities, and we began developing the online data processing services that really became the focus of our business the last 7 years. And it has really become the focus of getting to the next level with our clientele. Now we can deal in volumes of data so much easier than before and produce more information products and learn from the data much more than ever before."
