The weather was perfect for a test drive, and several retailers and growers did just that. In a field down the road from manufacturer GVM's headquarters office in Biglerville, PA, interested applicators got to take the latest Predator — the 8240 — for a spin.
Two big advancements for the Predator 8240 center around the powertrain. Its use of the 3500 Allison five-speed transmission with torque converter lock-up significantly improves fuel efficiency, making it the most fuel efficient chassis in its class, according to GVM. Second, the all mechanical drive machine now features front wheel assist on demand, providing optimum performance in hilly and wet terrain.
Other 8240 highlights include a 240-hp Cummins QSB-6.7 liter diesel engine, 50-inch clearance hydraulic adjust front and rear axle, and a standard 1,000- or optional 1,200-gallon stainless tank.
On the control side, the ENVIZIO Pro or VIPER units from Raven are available as combo packages to enhance spray control, accuracy, and recordkeeping.
